Bombay High Court allows Maharashtra DMER to go ahead with its domicile policy

Bombay High Court’s Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and MS Sonak J on Monday refuse to interfere with the domicile requirement for medical college admissions in the Maharashtra state. Bombay High Court was hearing petitions filed by Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir´s Karmaveer Bhausaheb Hiray Dental College and Hospital, a private unaided college, and the students from outside Maharashtra, challenging the Maharashtra Domicile rules.

This decision would mean that Private unaided medical and dental colleges of Maharashtra will not be able to admit students of other states. domicile criteria will continue to be a part of eligibility in Private Unaided medical and Dental Colleges of Maharashtra. The bench also rejected the arguments of the minority institutions that these domicile rules were not applicable to them.
